Nigeria establishes committee to boost food security and livestock production

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has constituted a technical committee aimed at accelerating livestock development and staple crop production across Nigeria. The committee was formed during a high-level meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja to address agricultural sector performance and strategic interventions.

The group is tasked with developing a blueprint to expedite interventions specifically targeting wheat, other staple crops, and livestock. The initiative follows recent engagements with President Bola Tinubu regarding agricultural productivity and the prevention of famine through year-round farming.

Coordinated by Ms. Marion Moon, the committee includes representatives from several federal ministries, including Agriculture and Food Security, Water Resources and Sanitation, and Livestock Development, as well as the Ministry of Finance Incorporated. It also features leadership from various national agricultural agencies, such as the Bank of Agriculture, the National Agricultural Seeds Council, and the Nigeria Commodities Exchange.
