Nigeria expands AI-driven education programs for youth

At the 2026 Abuja Schools Debate Tournament, Dr Olushola Oresanya, Executive Director of the Teen and Youth Development Initiative, highlighted the need to equip young Nigerians with artificial‑intelligence skills. The competition brought together 20 secondary schools, used a World Debate Competition format, and awarded cash prizes of N100,000, N70,000 and N50,000 together with tuition scholarships. Winners also gained the chance to compete on international debate platforms.

In Osun State, Education Commissioner Adedipo Eluwole, speaking at a media dialogue co‑hosted with UNICEF, called for the deployment of digital technology and AI to reach out‑of‑school children. He cited the Nigeria Learning Passport and Passport to Earning platforms as tools that can personalise learning, support teachers and bridge educational gaps. Participants were urged to address challenges such as digital access, literacy and online child protection while promoting inclusive, future‑ready education.
