Nigeria expands digital infrastructure and cooperation with Chad

Nigeria and Chad are strengthening bilateral cooperation in the digital and telecommunications sectors. During a working visit to Chad, Nigerian Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, met with Chadian officials to discuss sharing expertise in digital infrastructure and innovation. Chadian Minister of Telecommunications, Haliki Choua Mahamat, expressed interest in leveraging Nigerian expertise to accelerate Chad’s digital transformation.

Simultaneously, the Nigerian government is advancing domestic infrastructure projects. Minister Tijani announced that at least 200 new telecommunications sites are expected to be operational by December as part of a larger plan to deploy 3,700 towers nationwide. This initiative aims to connect over 20 million Nigerians in underserved communities. The expansion includes investing in a 90,000-kilometre fibre optic network and upgrading the NIGCOMSAT communications satellite to extend coverage to remote areas.
