Nigeria expands gaming industry and esports development

Nigeria is intensifying efforts to transition from a major gaming consumer market to a global producer of gaming intellectual property and competitive esports.

At Gamescom 2026, a Nigerian delegation will host showcases, developer presentations, and an Africa Games Industry Mixer. The initiative aims to address economic challenges such as capital, distribution, and discoverability, helping Nigerian creators convert creative talent into globally competitive products.

Simultaneously, the Esports Federation of Nigeria (EFN) has launched strategic programs to formalize the nation’s competitive gaming sector. Under the oversight of the National Sports Commission, the EFN is introducing the National Esports Championship, a Schools and University Esports League, and the Team Nigeria Esports Program. These initiatives are designed to nurture talent, provide digital literacy, and create professional pathways for referees, broadcasters, and athletes.
