Nigeria expands livestock infrastructure with new facilities in Adamawa

The Nigerian Federal Government and the Adamawa State Government have strengthened their partnership to expand the livestock industry through several new infrastructure projects. During a working visit to Adamawa, the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, commissioned multiple facilities designed to improve animal health and productivity.

Key developments include a solar-powered vaccine cold-chain facility in Jambutu, Jimeta, capable of storing approximately 40 million doses of veterinary vaccines. This facility is intended to serve as a national and regional hub for vaccine storage and distribution, particularly to support the North-East region. The project is part of the Livestock Productivity, Resilience and Support Project (L-PRES), supported by the World Bank.

Additional projects commissioned include an artificial insemination centre at Adamawa State University in Mubi to improve breeding quality, and an animal quarantine station in the Maiha Local Government Area to ensure healthy livestock trade. The Minister noted that similar vaccine storage facilities have been established in Abuja, Sokoto, Edo, Lagos, and Anambra to create a nationwide network.
