Nigeria expands Renewed Hope social protection and food outreach
The Nigerian government is expanding its social welfare efforts through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI). The RHI Food Outreach Programme has reached Bauchi State, marking the 29th state to benefit from the social investment scheme. The program provides food items to vulnerable groups, including persons with disabilities, supported by monthly donations from ASR Africa and an anonymous donor.
Additionally, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu is set to launch a $1 billion Renewed Hope social protection programme in Abuja. This initiative aims to strengthen Nigeria’s social protection architecture through the ‘One Humanitarian One Poverty Response System’ (OHOPRS). The system is designed to integrate humanitarian response, poverty reduction, and economic inclusion using a household-centered approach to move citizens from vulnerability to prosperity.
