Nigeria explores new security architectures to combat evolving threats

Nigeria's Ministry of Defence is exploring new strategic frameworks to address evolving security threats and improve inter-agency coordination. During a policy colloquium in Abuja, Defence Minister General Christopher Musa emphasized the need for a responsive defence posture that leverages technological advancements to meet the complexities of contemporary crime.

In a related proposal presented at a security summit, former Chief of Defence Intelligence Air Vice Marshal Monday Riku Morgan suggested a five-level integrated security architecture specifically for the North-Central region. Known as the North-Central Integrated Security and Resilience Model (NCISRM), the plan aims to shift from agency-centric to system-centric security through intelligence fusion, community participation, and technology.

The proposed model includes a Regional Security Fusion Centre linked to the Office of the National Security Adviser, state-level coordination centres for 24-hour situational awareness, and local security networks involving traditional rulers, farmers, and pastoralists to enhance early-warning mechanisms.
