Nigeria settles long-running Murtala Muhammed Airport dispute

The Nigerian Federal Government and Bi-Courtney Group have signed a settlement agreement to end a nearly 20-year legal and financial dispute regarding the management of Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2) in Lagos.

Under the agreement, Bi-Courtney will write off a N132 billion judgment for lost revenue and relinquish claims to the General Aviation Terminal. In exchange, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) will cancel two decades of unpaid concession fees. The settlement also resolves disagreements over the terminal's concession duration and restores the status of the General Aviation Terminal as Federal Government property.

The deal aims to restart stalled development projects, including a hotel and conference centre, which must be completed within 24 months. Additionally, Bi-Courtney has been granted permission to expand its apron to accommodate regional African flights. Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo noted that the resolution establishes a new framework for cooperation and restores revenue collection for FAAN.
