Nigeria Federal Government Expands Flood Resilience Partnerships in Lagos and Cross River
The Federal Government of Nigeria, through Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation Prof. Joseph Utsev, renewed a partnership with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu to strengthen flood resilience, sanitation and water‑sector reforms. The agreement includes federal support for drainage infrastructure, integrated water‑resources management, the draft National Water Compact, and the National Flood Intelligence Monitoring System.
Separately, the government pledged a coordinated regional response to severe erosion and flooding in the South‑South, focusing on Cross River State. South‑South Development Commission Managing Director Usoro Akpabio visited an IDP camp, promised humanitarian aid, long‑term mitigation measures and climate‑change adaptation, and highlighted collaboration with state agencies such as the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency and the Nigerian Red Cross Society.
