Nigeria Federal Government reports N250 billion spent on road projects
Nigeria's Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, announced that the Federal Government has completed over 260 emergency road rehabilitation projects across the country, totaling more than N250 billion over the last three years. He stated that the government has reconstructed more than 10 bridges in every state of the federation.
To ensure transparency and accountability, the administration has invited the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to audit ongoing projects and has requested the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to do the same. Umahi noted, “Under President Bola Tinubu, for the first time, we exposed all the ongoing projects to the ICPC to go around, check procurement, check execution, and give us queries where we have erred.”
Regarding infrastructure in Lagos, Umahi reported that remedial work is being conducted on the Eko Bridge due to its serious condition. To avoid massive disruption, only half of the carriageway has been closed while the government monitors cracks daily. Additionally, 40 guards have been deployed to protect the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway from vandals.
