Nigeria Flamingos win WAFU-B U-17 Girls Cup with perfect record

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, won the 2026 WAFU-B U-17 Girls Cup in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, following a 4-0 victory over Togo in the final.

Led by captain Chidera Harmony, who scored two penalties, and featuring goals from Oluebube Umejiaku and Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, the Flamingos completed a perfect tournament with five wins from five matches. Their campaign included victories over Niger, Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Côte d’Ivoire. Adegbuyi was named Best Player of the Tournament, while Onyinyechi Opara received the Best Goalkeeper award.

Ghana’s Black Maidens finished in second place after a 4-0 win against Côte d’Ivoire in their final match. The tournament serves as a critical preparation stage for the upcoming FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, where the Flamingos will compete in Group B against North Korea, Poland, and Puerto Rico.
