Ghana and Nigeria face mixed results in regional football qualifiers
Ghana’s Black Sharks have qualified for the 2026 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal after defeating Nigeria 7-4 in a decisive second-leg qualifier in Keta. Following a 3-3 draw in the first leg in Kaduna, Ghana secured a 10-7 aggregate victory to overcome their West African rivals.
In youth football, Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets U17 team has failed to qualify for both the 2027 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2027 FIFA U-17 World Cup. Their campaign in the 2026 WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship ended following a 1-1 draw against Côte d’Ivoire in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, leaving them at the bottom of Group B.
Additionally, Ghana’s Black Starlets U17 team has advanced to the semi-finals of the WAFU Zone B Championship. They are set to face Côte d’Ivoire for a chance to qualify for the 2027 U-17 AFCON in Morocco.
