Nigeria foreign exchange reserves hit 17-year high of $52.5 billion

Nigeria's foreign exchange reserves have reached a 17-year high, exceeding $52.5 billion as of July 17, 2026. The Central Bank of Nigeria reported that this milestone reflects recovering investor confidence and sustained capital inflows into the national economy.

Economic reforms implemented by the central bank have contributed to improved macroeconomic stability and a deceleration in inflation. The overall inflation rate saw a slight decrease from 15.93% in May 2026 to 15.91% in June 2026. Additionally, the gap between the official exchange rate and the parallel market rate has narrowed to less than 2%, signaling increased stability in the foreign exchange market.
