Nigeria FRSC backs Tinubu's CNG and electric vehicle initiative
Shehu Mohammed, Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Electric Vehicles (EV). Speaking at the Nigeria Auto Industry Summit, Mohammed noted that the transition to cleaner energy aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals regarding green energy and climate action.
The initiative is reportedly attracting significant private sector investment, leading to the establishment of assembly plants for electric and CNG vehicles, as well as the local manufacturing of CNG cylinders and conversion kits. Mohammed highlighted that this shift is expected to create substantial employment opportunities for Nigerian youth across the manufacturing, engineering, and logistics sectors.
Furthermore, the FRSC linked these clean mobility efforts to national infrastructure projects, such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, aiming to provide a more sustainable and efficient transport system by 2030.
