Team Nigeria Gears Up for 2026 Commonwealth Games at Aberdeen Training Camp

British‑born middleweight boxer Patricia Mbata unveiled the official Team Nigeria kit as the squad finalised preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The training camp at Aberdeen Sports Village expanded to 74 athletes after 18 more arrivals, leaving just 18 days before the opening ceremony.

Director General of Nigeria’s National Sports Commission, Hon. Bukola Olopade, praised the world‑class facilities—including an indoor athletics centre, Olympic‑standard aquatics pool and high‑performance gym—and expressed confidence that the athletes will benefit from the final preparation phase.

Former Commonwealth champion Yusuf Alli addressed the team, urging strict discipline, punctuality and proper rest, stressing that “the medals will take care of themselves” if athletes follow the camp rules. He highlighted the responsibility of representing Nigeria and called for unity and professionalism throughout the Games.

Team Nigeria plans to compete in ten sports in Glasgow from 23 July to 2 August, with officials hopeful that the disciplined training and enhanced facilities will translate into podium finishes.
