Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory CNG Users Forum Calls for Government Action on Fuel Shortages

The FCT CNG Users’ Forum has asked the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles to work closely with the government to resolve persistent CNG shortages in Abuja. The forum says the shortages stem from supply disruptions, limited storage capacity at existing stations, diverted gas trucks, and traffic congestion on the Lokoja‑Kabba corridor. It recommends building additional mother plants, standby storage cascades, fast‑tracking pipeline projects and licensing more gas processors, while also flagging problems such as expired cylinders, poor station management, extortion by attendants and queue‑jumping.

On 30 July, the Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to expand CNG infrastructure, boost local vehicle manufacturing and deepen partnerships for CNG and electric‑vehicle adoption. The pledge was made at the 3rd Nigeria Auto Industry Summit in Lagos, organized by the Nigeria Auto Journalists Association, with participation from policymakers, regulators, manufacturers, financiers and development partners. The Presidential Initiative, led by Executive Chairman Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed, was created after the removal of fuel subsidies to provide an affordable, gas‑based transport alternative.
