Nigeria government pays ₦18 billion to former Nigeria Airways workers

The Nigerian Federal Government has disbursed ₦18 billion in severance benefits to former employees of the defunct Nigeria Airways. According to the Federal Ministry of Finance, 2,100 workers from batches one through seven have received payments, while the claims of approximately 600 beneficiaries in batches eight and nine are being finalized.

Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele noted that the settlement arrives decades late for many, with some former employees having passed away before receiving their entitlements. Families of deceased workers must now navigate administrative procedures to establish rights to these estates.

Separately, the Federal Parastatals and Private Sector Pensioners Association of Nigeria (FEPPPAN) has called on the government to expedite other outstanding pension obligations. The association is requesting the immediate payment of three months of the ₦25,000 monthly subsidy-removal palliative and seeking clarity on pension harmonization implementation.
