Nigeria governors declare nutrition emergency and launch intervention fund

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has announced a nationwide nutrition emergency and the establishment of a National Nutrition Intervention Fund. This fund is intended to support the implementation of the Nutrition 774 Initiative across all local government areas in Nigeria.

Following a three-day nutrition leadership exchange in Ethiopia, Nigerian officials studied the Seqota Declaration to improve domestic nutrition delivery. Governor Dauda Lawal stated that the exchange provided practical lessons in multisectoral coordination, predictable financing, and the use of data to drive accountability.

The initiative aims to incentivize state-level leadership and encourage increased domestic investment. This commitment reinforces a Nutrition Compact signed in February 2025 by the three tiers of government, including the Federal Government, the 36 states, and the 774 local governments.
