Nigeria grapples with leadership crisis and religious division
Nigeria is confronting a deepening leadership crisis. Citizens report that many public officials prioritize personal enrichment over public service, traveling abroad for medical treatment, sending their children to expensive foreign schools, and enjoying comforts while many Nigerians struggle with rising food prices, unemployment, insecurity and inadequate healthcare.
At the same time, religious and ethnic identities are being exploited for political and economic gain. Both Muslims and Christians share aspirations for peace, security, education and jobs, yet political actors inflame religious loyalties during elections, diverting attention from core issues such as insecurity, inflation, unemployment and infrastructure.
The combined effect is heightened insecurity, declining agricultural productivity, kidnappings and a widening gap between the privileged elite and ordinary citizens, undermining national development and social cohesion.
