Nigeria handball teams launch continental campaigns

Nigeria’s national handball teams have commenced significant continental campaigns. The Senior Women’s team opened their IHF Women’s Nations Trophy Africa Zone III campaign with a 39-18 victory over Ghana in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Led by head coach Michael Taangahar, the team established a 18-7 lead by halftime and maintained their momentum to secure the win. Queen Modebe was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) for her performance.

In the youth category, Nigeria’s U-20 men’s handball team is set to begin the 33rd African Men’s Junior Nations Championship in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. Coached by Emmanuel David, the squad is placed in Group B alongside Algeria, Angola, and Madagascar. This tournament serves as a qualifier for the 2027 IHF Men’s Junior World Championship.
