Nigeria House Committee Orders IGP to Produce Alleged PFIPC Director-General

The House of Representatives ad‑hoc committee, chaired by Rep. Yusuf Gagdi, is probing the alleged existence of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC). Lawmakers allege the phantom agency secured office space in the Federal Secretariat and received a budget allocation of more than N1.32 billion in the 2026 Appropriation Act.

The committee gave Inspector‑General of Police Olatunji Disu a 48‑hour deadline to present the self‑claimed Director‑General, Adeyemi Adeniyi (also referred to as Adeyemi Matthew), before a Wednesday hearing. The Accountant‑General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, is also scheduled to testify about a State House letter that was used to obtain an administrative budget code for the council. Budget Office Director‑General Tanimu Yakubu said the PFIPC’s origins trace back to the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC) created during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in 2019.

Buhari’s media office (BMO) has denied that the former president created the PFIPC, reiterating that only the PEAC was established under his tenure. Police have arrested Adeyemi Adeniyi on charges of forging documents and alleged payments of N400 million to an intermediary for Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila. The committee has also identified about 29 forged documents linked to the agency and faces pressure to summon the chief of staff for questioning.
