Nigeria House of Representatives dissolves all ad hoc committees

The Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has ordered the immediate dissolution of all ad hoc committees. The directive, which took effect on August 28, 2026, was communicated via a circular issued by the Clerk of the House, Sidi Ibrahim.

The dissolution follows the expiration of deadlines for these temporary panels to complete their assignments and submit reports. According to the House Standing Orders, specifically Order 18, Rule 11, Paragraph 5, committees are required to submit reports within a prescribed timeframe. The leadership noted that while two committees had obtained two-week extensions under Order 18, Rule 5, those extensions have also lapsed.

Committee chairmen have been directed to submit all outstanding reports, working documents, and records to the Office of the Clerk for safekeeping. The directive mandates that all activities conducted under the names of the dissolved committees must cease immediately. This administrative action follows recent activity from a committee investigating the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, which recently submitted a preliminary report.
