Nigeria implements Kampala Declaration for agricultural development

The Nigerian Federal Government, state governments, and development partners have agreed to collaborate on implementing the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Kampala Declaration and its 2026–2035 Strategy and Action Plan.

Speaking at a meeting in Maiduguri, Borno State, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Senator Abubakar Kyari emphasized that alignment between federal and state authorities is essential for sustainable food security and resilient livelihoods. He noted that the Kampala framework expands agricultural development beyond simple production to include investment, finance, nutrition security, trade, and governance.

Kyari highlighted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has prioritized food security as a central national agenda. The minister reported that Nigeria has already seen price reductions of up to 50 percent for certain essential food commodities, supported by expanded input distribution and investments in rural infrastructure. He called for the translation of these policies into practical results that strengthen rural economies and support smallholder farmers.
