Nigeria implements regulatory acts and explores AI for transport
Nigeria continues to manage various regulatory and developmental frameworks through several key legislative acts and institutional initiatives.
Legislative frameworks include the establishment of the Nigeria Reinsurance Corporation to manage reinsurance business both domestically and internationally, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency to oversee aviation safety and management, and the Nigerian Atomic Energy Commission, which is tasked with the peaceful use of atomic energy and the development of nuclear installations. Additionally, the Niger-delta Development Commission remains established to address ecological issues arising from oil exploration in the Niger Delta region.
In the transport sector, the Nigerian Institution of Highway and Transportation Engineers (NIHTE) has called for the government to integrate Artificial Intelligence and intelligent transport management systems. Proponents suggest that AI-powered tools, such as real-time data analysis from sensors and cameras, could improve road safety, reduce congestion, and increase government revenue through automated traffic enforcement.
