Nigeria Inaugurates Anti-Doping Technical Board Ahead of Commonwealth Games

On 2 July 2026 the Federal Government of Nigeria inaugurated the Technical Board of the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre (NADC) in Abuja. Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, said the board marks a shift from policy to action under the National Anti‑Doping Act 2025, stressing the need to protect clean athletes and promote integrity across elite and grassroots sport.

At the same time, the National Institute for Sports (NIS) and the National Sports Commission (NSC) outlined preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. NIS Director‑General Philip Shaibu projected at least 20 gold medals for Team Nigeria, citing timely preparation, talent scouting and a 20‑day acclimatisation programme. NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko and Director‑General Bukola Olopade reiterated the focus on discipline, grassroots development and rigorous compliance with commission rules as the team readies for the Games.
