Nigeria inaugurates subcommittee for fiscal policy and tax reforms

Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, has inaugurated a Technical Subcommittee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms. The subcommittee is tasked with reviewing the implementation of recent tax laws, including the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025, and the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Act 2025.

The mandate aims to address complexities within the national tax system, such as multiple taxes and fragmented agencies, which the government identifies as a burden on small businesses and low-income citizens. The review will encompass fiscal policy, public financial management, debt, transparency, and capital markets.

Members of the subcommittee have been urged to utilize 134 submissions from various stakeholders, including investors and civil society, to ensure reforms promote productivity and manufacturing while considering the economic impact on women, youth, and low-income households.
