Nigeria Industrial Policy 2025 faces calls for measurable implementation

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has called on the federal government to ensure the Nigeria Industrial Policy 2025 translates into measurable improvements in productive capacity and manufacturing competitiveness. MAN President Otunba Francis Meshioye emphasized that the framework must move beyond managing immediate pressures to building an industrial economy capable of competing globally and within Africa.

Senator John Owan Enoh, Minister of State for Industry, reported that implementation is progressing. Key developments include the activation of the ‘Nigeria First Policy’ to promote local manufactured goods, such as assembled automobiles and textile products. The ministry is also working with the Bureau of Public Procurement to accelerate patronage of domestic industries.

Additional progress includes negotiating a $69 million industrial cluster project with the African Development Bank to enhance financing for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Efforts are also underway to strengthen value chain linkages in the cotton, textile, and garment sectors, alongside skill acquisition programs in mechatronics and artisan training.
