Nigeria infrastructure: Borno and Adamawa states address flood damage

Nigerian authorities in Borno and Adamawa states are implementing measures to repair and protect critical infrastructure damaged or threatened by flooding.

In Borno State, the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu, inspected North East Development Commission (NEDC) projects aimed at recovering from the 2024 floods. Key reconstruction efforts include the nine-span Fori-Galtimari Bridge and the six-span Moromoro Bridge, both of which collapsed during the flooding. The minister also reviewed the construction of a 250-bed student hostel at the Mohammed Lawan College of Agriculture.

In Adamawa State, the government has ordered emergency measures to protect the Ngurore Bridge on Numan Road from heavy rainfall. Commissioner for Works and Energy Development, Mohammed Suleiman, noted that while permanent interventions will occur during the dry season, immediate steps are needed to prevent the bridge from being cut off. Suleiman also highlighted the ongoing construction of the 13-span Shuwa Bridge in Madagali Local Government Area.
