Nigeria Labour Congress President accuses Tinubu administration of ignoring labour concerns
Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of being aloof and failing to engage with organized labour. Ajaero stated that despite multiple attempts to initiate dialogue between May and December 2025, the federal government provided no response to the NLC’s communications.
The lack of engagement reportedly led the NLC to schedule a nationwide protest for December 17, 2025. While some state governors intervened to facilitate limited meetings between labour leaders and government representatives, Ajaero alleged that core issues raised by the congress remain unresolved.
These tensions coincide with industrial action by the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council, which recently conducted a three-day warning strike. The council is demanding a reduction in petrol prices to ₦500 per litre and the approval of new wage awards for workers.
