Nigeria Labour Congress warns of potential health sector strike

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has urged the Federal Government to resolve ongoing salary and welfare disputes with health workers to prevent a potential strike in the nation’s health sector. In a letter addressed to the Minister of Labour and Employment, NLC President Joe Ajaero highlighted the prolonged delay in adjusting the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS).

Ajaero noted that members of the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) have reportedly been ignored despite various signed Memoranda of Understanding, terms of agreement, and Collective Bargaining Agreements. The NLC has called for the immediate resumption of collective bargaining negotiations and requested intervention from the Presidential Committee on Salaries.

The NLC warned that a failure to resolve these issues could have grave consequences for the country’s fragile healthcare services and national industrial relations, stating that the organization would support JOHESU if industrial action becomes necessary.
