Nigeria launches 100-day tourism calendar to target $100bn economy
The Nigerian federal government has launched a 100-day tourism calendar aimed at unlocking a projected $100 billion tourism and creative economy. Unveiled at the ‘Ember to Remember’ National Stakeholders Conference in Lagos, the initiative seeks to aggregate the country’s festivals, concerts, and cultural events onto a single digital platform.
Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, stated that the project is designed to connect international visitors, the Nigerian diaspora, and local consumers with experiences across the nation. The digital platform, powered by MyCityApp and MyLagosApp, focuses on the September-to-December festive period to maximize economic activity.
Musawa emphasized that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic vision to expand the nation's economic base and create jobs. The government aims to leverage tourism to drive growth in interconnected sectors, including aviation, hospitality, transportation, retail, and technology.
