Nigeria launches digital civic education and misinformation training
Civic engagement and information integrity initiatives are being launched in Nigeria to combat misinformation and enhance political literacy. ROUNDCHECK, a youth-led fact-checking organization, has introduced ‘Civic Play’, a web-based digital game designed to educate young Nigerians on democratic processes, citizens’ rights, and media literacy. The platform features over 1,000 questions and is slated for rollout in approximately 50 schools and tertiary institutions across Lagos, Oyo, and Ogun states.
In Osun State, FactCheck Africa conducted an information integrity workshop aimed at preparing stakeholders for the upcoming governorship election. The training targeted journalists, civil society organizations, and digital content creators, focusing on the identification and verification of deepfakes, fake news, and synthetic media. Experts at the workshop emphasized the necessity of using AI tools for fact-checking and urged media professionals to uphold journalistic ethics to maintain public trust and democratic stability.
