Nigeria launches digital tools to support MSMEs and trade
The Nigerian Federal Government has introduced new digital initiatives to support small businesses and expand international trade. The Bureau of Public Procurement, in collaboration with the World Bank, unveiled a free digital training platform in Abuja designed to help approximately 39.6 million nano, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) navigate government contracting processes.
Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Senator John Enoh, stated that the platform aims to remove barriers such as cumbersome procedures and complex documentation that have historically excluded small operators from public procurement. The initiative seeks to provide technical know-how to help businesses draft competitive bids and manage contracts without relying on middlemen.
Additionally, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, introduced trade intelligence tools via the Nigeria Trade Portal. These tools are intended to provide exporters and investors with reliable market information, tariff data, and entry requirements to support Nigeria’s goal of building a $1 trillion economy by 2030. Oduwole noted that capital importation rose from approximately $3.9 billion in 2023 to over $23 billion in 2025, while non-oil exports reached ₦12.36 trillion.
