Nigeria launches ‘Hire from Nigeria’ campaign to export talent
The Nigerian Federal Government has launched the ‘Hire from Nigeria’ campaign, an initiative designed to connect local professionals and digital talents with international employers. The program aims to create one million export-linked jobs by 2030, allowing citizens to participate in the global economy and earn foreign exchange without relocating abroad.
Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris stated that the campaign shifts the focus from exporting physical goods to exporting human capital, including knowledge, creativity, and professional services. The initiative involves several government bodies, including the Ministries of Education, Industry, Trade and Investment, and Information and National Orientation, alongside the National Talent Export Programme (NATEP).
To support this, the Ministry of Education is emphasizing practical, industry-relevant skills. Currently, over 200,000 Nigerians are undergoing training across 1,200 centers using an 80 per cent practical and 20 per cent theoretical model. Additionally, a planned Digital Technology Academy aims to train 35,000 Nigerians in specialized fields such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and cloud computing.
