Nigeria INEC ends voter registration, schedules Osun mock accreditation
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise closed on 26 July 2026, urging eligible Nigerians to complete registration before the deadline. The commission recorded 2,572,054 registrations in Phase 1 and 3,748,704 registrations in Phase 2, with a third phase concluding on the same day. INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan assured that every valid vote will be counted in the 2027 general election.
INEC also scheduled a mock accreditation exercise for 1 August 2026 in selected polling units across Osun State’s three senatorial districts, aimed at testing the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) ahead of the governorship poll.
On the same day, armed thugs invaded a Permanent Voter Card (PVC) distribution centre at Oyinlola DC Primary School in Okuku, Odo‑Otin LGA, Osun State, stealing three packs of PVCs. The Osun State Police Command launched an investigation, deploying tactical and intelligence teams to recover the cards and prosecute the perpetrators. The Tap Initiative for Citizens Development also launched the iReportINEC platform to allow citizens to report electoral incidents and monitor the process.
