Nigeria Launches National Sports and Education Excellence Programme

The Federal Government of Nigeria unveiled the National Sports and Education Excellence Programme (N‑SEEP) in Abuja, aiming to curb youth unemployment and insecurity by linking elite sports training with tertiary education. The initiative, presented by Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa and National Sports Commission Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko, will create Sports and Education Centres of Excellence at nine selected institutions, with the first phase launching this year at four universities.

N‑SEEP seeks to produce world‑class athletes and a new generation of coaches, sports scientists, physiotherapists, administrators and entrepreneurs, while stimulating private‑sector investment and expanding jobs in sports‑related industries. The programme is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and is intended to retain talent that previously migrated abroad.
