Nigeria launches retail savings bonds with 14% interest
The Debt Management Office, on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, opened a subscription on 3 August 2026 for two new FGN Savings Bonds. The two‑year bond matures on 12 August 2028 and carries an annual interest rate of 13.96 %, while the three‑year bond matures on 12 August 2029 with a rate of 14.96 %.
Investors can subscribe at ₦1,000 per unit, with a minimum purchase of ₦5,000 and a maximum of ₦50 million. The offer closes on 7 August, and settlement is scheduled for 12 August. Coupon payments are made quarterly on 12 November, 12 February, 12 May and 12 August. The bonds are backed by the full faith and credit of the Nigerian government, are listed on the Nigerian Exchange, enjoy tax exemptions for eligible investors such as pension funds, and qualify as liquid assets for banks’ liquidity‑ratio calculations.
