Nigeria launches vaccination campaigns in Kano and Jigawa
Health authorities in Nigeria have launched targeted vaccination campaigns in Kano and Jigawa states to combat disease outbreaks.
In Kano State, the government has commenced a diphtheria immunisation campaign across five local government areas: Dala, Fagge, Gwale, Kumbotso, and Ungogo. Coordinated by the Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC), the exercise aims to strengthen community protection. Officials are urging residents, particularly those whose last vaccination was over 10 years ago, to participate in the effort.
In Jigawa State, the Kaugama Local Government Area has initiated a vaccination programme for livestock to curb the spread of pulmonary disease. The campaign targets 3,105 animals, including cows, sheep, and goats, following reported cases in the Cumbuleske, Ganuwa, and Rigar Kwagga communities. The intervention aims to prevent further spread of the infection, which causes respiratory distress in animals.
