Nigeria Maritime Police engages stakeholders on port operations
AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Maritime Police Command, has held meetings with maritime stakeholders to address concerns regarding police operations during the port cargo clearance process.
The engagements included the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) and the National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents (NCMDLCA). The discussions aimed to strengthen collaboration, clarify operational concerns, and bridge communication gaps between the Command and maritime operators.
Stakeholders emphasized the need to combat criminality within port environments while ensuring that legitimate trade and business activities are not unnecessarily impeded. AIG Nurat stated that effective maritime security and efficient trade facilitation are complementary objectives requiring mutual understanding and sustained collaboration.
