Nigeria Meteorological Agency issues three‑day weather outlook and launches climate‑risk training for agricultural ext​t

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) released a public advisory predicting a mix of heavy rains, isolated thunderstorms and intense sunshine across the country over the next 72 hours. The forecast calls for dry conditions with occasional clouds in the northern states, while the middle belt and southern zones face cloudy mornings, early light rains and later moderate thunderstorms affecting states such as Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Lagos and others. Regulators warned the public to stay vigilant and follow safety guidelines, especially for travel and aviation.

Separately, NiMet concluded a ten‑day Climate Risk Management training for agricultural extension officers in Abuja, conducted with partners including the International Livestock Research Institute, AGRA, the Stockholm Environment Institute and the Sasakawa Africa Association. The program aims to equip extension agents with climate‑service knowledge to advise farmers on planting dates, crop choices and water management, targeting a 20‑30% boost in productivity and enhanced resilience to climate shocks, thereby supporting national food security.
