Nigeria Minister Umahi says Peter Obi will be alive for 2027 election but lose

Minister of Works Dave Umahi dismissed the claim by opposition presidential candidate Peter Obi that his life was in danger, stating that “nobody wants Obi dead; it’s not just reasonable. We all want him alive to contest this election and watch himself lose again.” Umahi made the remarks while inspecting federal road projects in Ebonyi State, arguing that the Tinubu administration’s infrastructure work has won support in the South‑East.

Obi had alleged that he faced harassment and threats, including an incident at Lagos airport where his vehicle was clamped, and said the government was targeting his business and political activities. The presidency rejected the allegations as unfounded, accusing Obi of fabricating a victim narrative.
