Nigeria Ministry of Education releases approved 2026–2028 textbook list

The Nigerian Federal Ministry of Education has released the final list of ranked and approved textbooks for use in schools from 2026 to 2028. This announcement follows the completion of the first phase of a national textbook ranking exercise.

The approved list includes materials for Primary 1, Primary 4, Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS 1), and Senior Secondary School 1 (SS 1). To improve identification, monitoring, and accountability, each approved textbook will now feature a unique Ranking/QR Tracking Code. These codes will be accompanied by essential details such as the title, author, publisher, and year of publication.

The ministry stated that the introduction of these codes is a step toward “strengthening the monitoring and control of approved instructional materials and ensuring greater transparency in their selection, procurement and utilisation.”

The exercise was conducted under the guidance of Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa and Minister of State for Education Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad. The ranking process will continue in phases, with the second phase set to cover Primary 2, Primary 5, JSS 2, and SS 2.
