Nigeria moves to revive Kolmani oil exploration in Bauchi
The Nigerian Federal Government has pledged to facilitate the remobilisation of exploration activities at the Kolmani Oil Field in Bauchi State. Although oil exploration in the Benue Trough was officially flagged off during the previous administration, activities at the site have since halted.
Muhammad Bello, Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), announced the commitment during a verification visit to the site. Bello stated that the commission is assessing the current state of the project to advocate for its continuation, noting its importance to Bauchi State, the North-East region, and the entire country.
Bello indicated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed concern regarding the project and has assured the governors of Bauchi and Gombe States that mobilization for the project's continuation will occur. The RMAFC intends to report its findings to relevant authorities to support the revival of exploration activities. Additionally, Bello inspected the construction of the Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy, commending the state government for developing institutions to provide necessary manpower for the sector.
