Godswill Akpabio petitions DSS over viral anti-North fabrication

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate the circulation of a fabricated statement attributed to him on social media. The viral graphic purportedly shows Akpabio claiming that Northerners would ‘suffer the most’ if President Bola Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election.

In a petition signed by his Chief of Staff, Chinedu Akubueze, Akpabio described the material as ‘manifestly false, inflammatory and dangerously divisive.’ He noted that the graphic, which features his photograph and official designation, lacks any verifiable source, audio, video, or transcript to authenticate the claim.

The Senate President’s office alleged that the statement was deliberately manufactured to provoke regional resentment and create hostility between Northern Nigerians and the President. Akpabio has challenged those disseminating the claim to produce original, unedited evidence and has urged the DSS to identify the individuals responsible for the coordinated distribution of the misinformation.
