Nigeria: NGO warns of malaria and typhoid prevalence

The Youth on Ground Progressive and Mentorship Initiative (YOG) has issued a warning regarding the high prevalence of malaria and typhoid fever in Nigeria, particularly during the rainy season. Dr. Obioma Nwuba, the founder and national coordinator of the NGO, described these diseases as ‘silent killers’ that require prompt medical attention.

During a two-day free medical outreach in Ekwulobia, Anambra State, the organization provided diagnosis and treatment for malaria and typhoid. The initiative aimed to support rural women and youth who often suffer from these illnesses due to financial constraints.

In partnership with the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency and the Knowledge Network for Disease Control and Vigilance (KNCV), the outreach also offered screening, counseling, and treatment for tuberculosis, hepatitis B and C, and HIV. Dr. Nwuba called on private organizations to complement government efforts in improving grassroots healthcare delivery.
