Nigeria non-oil exports reach record $6.1 billion

Nigeria recorded record non-oil export earnings of $6.1 billion in 2025, marking an 11.5 percent increase from the $5.46 billion reported in 2024. According to the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, the country exported 281 different products to 120 countries, with export volumes rising 10 percent to 8.02 million metric tonnes.

The Netherlands was the largest destination by value, accounting for 17.53 percent of these exports, followed by Brazil at 10.35 percent and India at 7.63 percent. Key commodities driving this growth included cocoa and its derivatives, urea fertilizer, cashew nuts, sesame seeds, gold, and various industrial metals.

In contrast to the growth in non-oil exports, Nigeria faces challenges in the palm oil sector. Spending on palm oil imports nearly tripled in the first quarter of 2026, reaching approximately 23 billion naira. This surge is driven by a supply gap, as domestic production of 1.5 million tonnes fails to meet the annual national demand of 2.4 million tonnes.
