Nigeria officials to pitch $42.7 billion investment plan in Bangkok
Nigerian economic officials, including Minister of Finance Taiwo Oyedele and Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Jumoke Oduwole, are traveling to Bangkok for the 2026 World Bank/International Monetary Fund Annual Meetings.
The mission aims to pitch Nigeria as a high-potential destination for capital. The Federal Ministry of Finance plans to present 23 transactions with a total capital requirement of $42.7 billion. These investment opportunities span several sectors, including transport, energy, gas, agriculture, industry, housing, and urban services.
While Nigeria has seen recent capital inflows, with the IMF reporting a net inflow of approximately $5.9 billion in 2025—primarily from portfolio investment—net foreign direct investment remains below one percent of GDP. The IMF noted that establishing a credible macroeconomic framework, predictable regulation, and reliable infrastructure is essential for strengthening foreign direct investment.
