Nigeria Olympic Committee hosts seminar on gender equality in sports media

The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) Women’s Commission organized a two-day seminar in Abuja to address gender equality in sports media. The event, attended by 40 members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), aims to equip journalists with the skills to challenge stereotypes and improve the visibility of female athletes, coaches, and administrators.

NOC President Habu Gumel emphasized the media's power to shape public perception, stating that inclusive reporting is essential to encouraging more girls to participate in sports and inspiring women to pursue leadership roles. SWAN President Isaiah Kemje Benjamin also called for structured, sustained partnerships between sports institutions and media leadership to improve national sports coverage and accountability.
