Nigeria Olympic Committee to host girl child empowerment event in Lagos
The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) Women Commission will host an empowerment event for over 100 adolescent girls from secondary schools across Lagos State on Saturday, October 10. Held at the renovated Olympic Sports Complex in Amuwo-Odofin, the program is themed ‘Her Voice, Her Future: Investing in Girls Through Sports and Education.’
The initiative coincides with the United Nations-backed International Day of the Girl Child. It aims to use sports and education as tools for leadership, personal development, and digital empowerment, while advocating against child marriage. The event will bring together young female athletes, coaches, and stakeholders from the sports, education, and advocacy sectors.
NOC President Habu Gumel stated that the program seeks to highlight the rights of young females and provide them with platforms to shape their own futures. This event is part of a broader annual program that includes a Women in Sports Leadership Training for journalists scheduled for late October in Abuja.
