Nigeria opens 2027/2028 UK Commonwealth Scholarship applications

The Nigerian Federal Ministry of Education has opened applications for the 2027/2028 Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowship Plan. The program offers funding for one-year taught Master’s programmes or doctoral studies lasting up to three years in the United Kingdom.

To qualify for the Master’s category, applicants must hold a first degree with at least a Second Class Upper Division. Doctoral applicants require a relevant Master’s degree and a minimum of a Second Class Lower Division in their undergraduate studies. Additionally, candidates must have secured admission into at least two UK institutions, and doctoral applicants must provide a supporting statement from a prospective UK supervisor.

Eligibility requirements include evidence of participation in the National Youth Service Corps. The selection process will evaluate candidates based on academic merit, the quality of their study plan, and the potential development impact upon completion. Applications must be submitted via the Electronic Application System by October 20, 2026.
